Its not so easy when you don't know how to get them - now, in twitter there are lots of accounts that have over 1 million followers ; and your asking, why does that person/company have so, many, followers? well, because that person/company could be famous or very known by thousands of people.
So they don't have to find a way to get a lot of followers, cause once they're account is verified, people will recognize thats the real person's twitter account. And the account will eventually start gaining a lot of followers.
One of the easiest ways of getting followers, is by mass following, now mass following is simply following a lot of twitter accounts at once, cause there are twitter accounts that usually follow there followers - thats a very common thing to do. Now if your going to do this way of getting a lot of followers don't expect instant followers (cause there are people, who don't follow back), now these are people who follow tweets("interesting twitter accounts") they are interested on or they are just famous and don't care about you, regardless of your famousness.
